David Getz

David Getz has the been the Orchestra Director at Morton High School since 2012, the same year he founded the Composers’ Guild. Getz himself was an MHS grad in 2008, and he received his Bachelor’s in Music Education from Illinois Wesleyan in 2012, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. Getz founded the club to offer students an experience he found incredibly valuable—the chance to hear music you composed performed by human beings. Getz has premiered multiple compositions with his orchestra at MHS as well as the Central Illinois Concert Orchestra, which he has conducted since 2017. In 2018, Getz composed and directed his first full-length musical, Ruth, which premiered to a standing-room only crowd of 1,200 in Morton. Getz is passionate about bringing the joy of composition to students, and he presented on the Composers’ Guild at the Illinois Music Educators Conference in January 2018.

In addition to his love of composing, Getz also loves athletics, and he is the Assistant Cross Country Coach at Morton High School. Getz lives in Morton with his wife, Lauren.
